Destinations On A Dime

Joan Vinson

With spring break just around the corner and summer following close behind, travel is on everyone’s mind. But don’t wait until the last second for vacation planning. Start searching now for the best available deals.

First Things First

I’m sure you know where to get your vacation planning done. We’re inundated with ads all day for Kayak,, Priceline, and so on. And they’ve all got catchy ad campaigns. But did you know there is a great app called Ibotta where your favorite travel sites will let you book reservations for less than the prices available on their own websites?

Here are the cash back deals you can get only through Ibotta:

  • Hotwire has the best cash back rate of hotels at 6%.
  • Not seeing what you want there? Try Choice Hotels or Orbitz at 5% cash back.

  • Top flight cashback deal is a whopping 7% from
  • Also, check out Hotwire for their 3% rate.

Rental Car

  • And Hertz is coming in close with 5%.

  • Orbitz is offering 5% cash back.

Home, Condo or Property

  •  VRBO and HomeAway are both offering $20 cash back.

Remember, these sites are ONLY offering these discounts through Ibotta.

Don’t have the app? Get it HERE.

Now, Onto Vacation Planning

Start by simplifying: Where are you going? How are you going to get there? Where are you going to stay? And what are you going to do once you’re there?

If you’re solely looking for a hotel, check out AccorHotels. It offers a massive index of hotels in 100 countries, so you very well might find what you’re looking for here.

Or maybe you’d like to knock out as much planning as possible on one platform. If that’s the case, then look no further than CheapTickets and CheapOair. Both offer comparisons on most of your travel needs: flights, hotels, rental cars, and package deals. Expedia and Travelocity offer similar services, but they also offer price comparisons on cruises.

If you’d like to focus on cruises alone, take a look at CruiseDirect. They have an impressive inventory of cruise lines and destinations. And then there’s CheapCaribbean, which offers vacation packages – and cruises – in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America.

If you’re not feeling the beach this year and would rather stay landlocked, take a look into Eastern Europe. It’s cheaper than most Western European countries, and you still get that old-world feel. One website that is particularly useful is InsightVacations, which is centered around Prague and has all types of cheap activities and events.

Don’t forget Airbnb! They just launched Airbnb Plus for travel booking in high-end homes. You can read more about that here.

Hopefully, you now have a tentative plan on where to look for cheap travel arrangements. Stay vigilant, keep your options open, and you’ll book the trip of your dreams with some spending money to spare.
