Get Calls From Telemarketers? You Might Be Owed $1,200

Leah Bourne

Telemarketers are the bane of most people’s days, but there is a small silver lining if you received a telemarketer call in the last few years: you might just be eligible for big money.

Folks who received a call from the Dish Network between 2010 and 2011 and who are on the Do Not Call list might be eligible to collect $1,200 per call they received.

230 million people are now on the Do Not Call list, which was created with the aim of stopping people from receiving unwanted calls from telemarketers, but that didn’t stop the Dish Network from calling people, which is what led to a successful $61 million class-action lawsuit, with a judge determining that the Dish Network willfully violated the law.

And now it is payback time.

Ironically, as the lawyers who brought the class action have tried to call people to tell them they might be eligible for this money, many have found that the person on the other end of the call thinks that they are a telemarketer.

“Talking to them firsthand, I learned that they thought that we were, A, telemarketers, or B, trying to scam them,” John W. Barrett, an attorney with Bailey Glasser, told CBS News.

Rest assured, it is no scam. To check if your phone number received one of these calls, you can look it up on this website.

Even if you didn’t receive one of the calls, make sure to share this with your friends and family who might have.
