This past weekend I set out on a mission: To see how much money I could earn online, from my couch, by doing things like online surveys, watching trailers and downloading offers.
Here’s everything I learned about how to make as much money as possible from the five sites I tried.
InboxDollars: An easy way to get actual cash
InboxDollars is the online rewards club that pays you actual cash to complete various activities online, anything from taking surveys, to playing games, watching videos and more. I gave it a try and I had success. Although it was not ultimately my favorite source on the list, (I’ll get to that a bit later), it was really easy to navigate.
How I Did: I found I earned about ten cents per two-min survey, or 50 cents per seven-minute survey. There is an awesome $5 sign-up on bonus so in about an hour you’ll easily have $8-10 in your account the day you start! Consider the fact that you are doing this while you watch TV and bum around, and that is pretty great.
Ipsos i-Say: Perfect for the casual survey taker
A common complaint against online surveys is that they are time-consuming, but that’s not the case at Ipsos i-Say. The only downside to this website is that you have to wait for them to send a survey to you. They send them less frequently, but they are some of the highest paying surveys out there, I found.
So, it’s a great option if you don’t want to invest a bunch of time and would rather take higher-paying surveys less often.
How I Did: You get paid in gift cards to places like Amazon, Walmart, Target, Apple and more (500 points equals $5, 1000 equals $10, 1530 equals $15 PayPal, and so on).
I found that you typically get about 500 points per 30 minutes and the surveys seemed to take a little less time than advertised, too! But remember, they will send the surveys to you, so it’s hard to control your earnings. That being said, I highly recommend just signing-up and taking the surveys that do end up getting sent to you. It’s pretty win-win.
Opinion Outpost: More money but a little more work
If you are really looking to cash in from taking surveys online, and are willing to put in some extra thought, then Opinion Outpost is probably the place for you. A research company, Opinion Outpost allows you to earn cash and rewards taking online surveys for points on their website. It’s easy to sign up and free.
Topics range from electronics and medicine to politics, sports, and appliances. Take note, the questions take some deep thinking (they aren’t just your basic “how many people are in your household” type questions).
How I Did: You’ll earn five points immediately when you qualify for the Welcome Survey and tell them about yourself. This takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
You will be able to redeem 100 points for $10 in cash via PayPal. Simple as that.
They will email you surveys that match your profile. In less than 30 minutes I took my first survey for 10 points, in 17 minutes. You are sure to get offered surveys daily too. So no lack of money opportunity here!
Survey Junkie: This is my all-around favorite
Survey Junkie ended up being my favorite of the bunch, because of the easy, short surveys, and how quickly you can get paid. The payout threshold is just $10, so you can cash out on earnings to Paypal, a checking account or gift card super quickly.
Signing up is a short, simple process and only takes one to two minutes and you’ll get 25 points right off the bat. Questions are simple, move quickly, are easy to answer. No typing long sentences or having to scroll through complicated answer choices here.
How I Did: The day I signed up I got 80 points in less than 10 minutes. Here’s how:
- Confirm email = 25 pts
- How it works intro = 5 pts
- Complete profile = 50 points
Average for what you can earn per survey:
- 30 points for 6-15 minutes surveys
- 15 points for 10-minute surveys
- 45 points for 19-minute surveys
You’ll be close to 200 points in less than an hour on the couch! Also, the more profiles you fill out, the more options for higher paying surveys you will get. Those profiles literally take one to two minutes each, and you’ll earn ten bonus points for each one.
100 points equal $1 and you need 1,000 to redeem for cold hard cash.
Swagbucks: Make money and be entertained
OK, this website had me laughing and I didn’t feel like I was stuck doing mindless tasks or answering boring questions. This was definitely a favorite of mine.
With Swagbucks, you can earn money completing surveys as well as watching videos, playing games and signing up for new services. This was probably my favorite platform just because of the variety and the entertainment factor. The videos made me laugh (most were ads), and were short and easy to find. The surveys were super quick and easy, too. Nothing was too complicated to answer and overall, I felt this was the fastest, most efficient platform to navigate.
How I Did: If you want a variety of ways to accrue some cash, or Swagbucks, then this is a fit for you. I accrued 80 Swagbucks in 20 minutes (including my sign-up time). What does that ultimately mean?
- 500 Swagbucks (SB) = $5 gift cards to popular places like Target, eBay, Starbucks, Amazon, etc.
- 1,000 SB= $10
- 1,500= $15
- And so on…
You will also get paid for things you’re already doing or have been curious to try such as using Uber Eats, trying out a Blue Apron subscription, signing up for a Hulu trial or joining Pampers rewards (we are talking 50 to 1500 SB). Right now, for instance, earn a $21 reward for signing up for a Hulu trial through Swagbucks!
So there you have it. These are the most reliable, easiest platforms to use to start earning money quickly for doing online surveys. Really trying to make money? I found that once you start to dig into it, there’s a method to it–some options are great for a quick payout, others take a little longer but the payout is bigger, while some are more entertaining or easy to figure out than others. You aren’t going to replace your day job with any of these, but for earning a little extra on the side, I came away being a fan.
