This Company Will Pay You To Tell Them What’s In Your Grocery Basket

Living in New York City, I’m always looking for ways to cut down on my grocery bill.

But you can only live off Ramen for so long. At some point after you’ve cut your grocery expenses, you need to try new ways to make money.

I recently joined the National Consumer Panel which promised to pay me for scanning items I bought. So far I’m on track to make over $100 this year which is almost two weeks of groceries for free.

Here’s how it works.

Why You Can Get Paid To Go Shopping

You’ve probably heard of the Nielsen company before. They’re that company that gives TV viewership ratings by tracking what people watch at home.

It turns out that they do the same thing with groceries under the name National Consumer Panel (NCP). By having people report on what they purchase every week they can extrapolate the what, when and how of everyday consumer behaviour.

From this information brands such as Coca Cola and Unilever can design and change products based on what you want. Pretty neat stuff.

Here’s How It Works

Participating is easy and free. First thing is first – you need to sign up here.

Once you’ve registered you’ll be sent a free scanner. Every time you go shopping, all you need to do is scan the bar codes on each product using the scanner (or your phone) then upload your data to NCP once a week. It works at every store including Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Walmart and Kroger.

Every time you send NCP data you’ll be awarded points which can be redeemed for cash or gift cards.

You’ll also be entered into regular sweepstakes and contests for prizes up to $10,000. Not a bad little bonus, right?

Registrations Are Open For A Limited Time

Since 2009, this program has been extremely exclusive and difficult to get into. The eligibility criteria was strict and there were long wait lists since it was so popular.

Luckily, NCP is on a limited-time signup drive and is letting people in significantly quicker than normal. When I signed up the wait pretty quick.

If you want to start getting paid to go shopping, follow the steps below:

  1. Click here to sign up. It’s free and takes 2 minutes.
  2. Receive your free scanner and start shopping.
  3. Redeem your points for cash or gift cards to your favorite stores.

Getting Paid To Shop

Since starting with NCP, shopping has definitely become more palatable. I’m not dreading the weekly trip as much since I’m getting paid to go.

Given it takes 10 minutes a week and you can easily earn over $100 a year, it’s definitely a side hustles worth getting in on while registrations are still open.
